Paul Friedman, MD Dr. Friedman is the Director of Dermatology Laser & Surgery Center in Houston, Texas and is a clinical assistant professor at both the University of Texas Medical School and Weill Cornell Medical College at Houston Methodist Hospital. He is the Past-President of American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS), and during his leadership term spearheaded the New Beginnings Branding Tattoo Removal program (found at aslms.org) to a network of over a hundred national and international board-certified physicians to assist sex trafficking survivors in their recovery process. Dr. Friedman was recognized as one of Medscape’s Physicians of the Year: The Best of 2022 for his philanthropic campaign as the President of ASLMS. He was most recently a recipient of the American Academy of Dermatology’s Presidential Citation for recognition of his dedication and visionary leadership in serving on the Ad Hoc Task Force on Dermatologic Resources for the Intervention and Prevention of Human Trafficking. |

Arianne Shadi Kourosh, MD, MPH Dr. Kourosh is the Director of the Dermatology Division of Community Health at Massachusetts General Hospital, Associate professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School and the Founder of Harvard’s pro bono laser and tattoo removal clinic to assist human trafficking survivors, as well as the Chair of the American Academy of Dermatology’s Task Force on Human Trafficking and the Co-Founder and Chair of the International Alliance of Dermatologists Against Trafficking, where she has mobilized collaborations with physicians and experts in from the United Nations, World Health Organization, and Council on Foreign Relations to study the intersection of human trafficking with the healthcare system and how health workers can better identify and advocate for patients experiencing trafficking. Dr. Kourosh travels globally as an educator and advocate for patients experiencing human trafficking, working tirelessly to bring attention and focus to identifying and treating the trafficked and educating the medical community on the issue. Dr. Kourosh has also developed an international registry on the Skin Signs of Human Trafficking found at https://skinsignsoftrafficking.org/ where any one who has seen or cared for a person experiencing human trafficking can anonymously document the skin signs they have seen to contribute to our evidence and education on this issue, and she has also just released the SSTEAR (Skin Signs of Trafficking Education Advocacy and Research) App with the AAD Task Force on Trafficking, a smartphone app that you can download for free that has many educational advocacy resources for health workers to help assist patients experiencing trafficking. |
